New York - up the Hudson

What an incredible river ; lined with city buildings for miles, filled with all manner of floating vessels - numerous, constant, fast ferries, huge, long barges, pilot boats, powerful tugs, massive freighters & tankers, cruise liners and every type of recreational boat all travelling their own determined path. We needed a 360 degree view the whole time.  The water was rough with a buffeting wind. Continuing up the Hudson we left all this behind and in the late afternoon anchored in a small, quiet, bush lined bay - the complete opposite of the morning's travel.
Our next day's trip was calm with a following tide which gave us an extra 1 & 1/2 miles every hour. We had much higher land on both sides  - the Catskills with palisades & cliffs - a great contrast to the flat and swampy marshland in the southern states. The Hudson is over a 150 miles and even way up north we were passed by 2 huge tankers  - 1 southbound & 1 northbound interesting to watch them negotiate to pass each other in a wider section of the river. (behind us thank goodness - wouldn't have been room for us all). Tomorrow we carry on up the Hudson.
