End of the Hudson

At Kingston we visited the Maritime museum which showed most of the lighthouse we had passed on the way - all of them unique from typical towers to squat house types and rotunda-like ones. It showed the many types of fishing - the predominant one being for shad - mostly fished out now. There is a photo of a wooden ice sailing vessel that could travel up to 100mph over the ice  ( like the land sail boats or  blow boats Don ).
Waterford at the top of the Hudson is where you make the decision to go north on the Champlain Canal to Montreal or go east on the Erie Canal. We're going down the Erie canal route, under many low bridges 20ft and through 21 locks. It was here that we lowered the mast to make the entire passage simpler. On the morning we left we were delayed because the lockmaster had spotted a body and the fire/police were summoned to fetch it out. Not a good way to begin.
