Delaware Bay to Cape May a 54 mile run.

We left at 5.20 am in the half dark, dragging our boat bum along the muddy bottom of the canal to get a good start and beat the wind and catch the tide, which runs at 2 knots, in Delaware Bay. It was misty with a rising red sun but we got the rest of it right. We passed the nuclear power plant and the Ship John Shoal lighthouse and then it began to look ominous. We watched the storm catch & gather around us on the radar. The alarm went off on our marine radio warning of the severe thunderstorm, lightning & heavy rain in our area, winds up to 60 knots with large hail and dangerous lightning and suggesting that we "take cover in the lowest part of your house". We got pelted &fortunately only 30 knot winds and no hail but had very little visibility, Out of the rain and mist appeared the Cape May passenger and vehicle Ferry, good sight, so we followed it into the Cape May Canal. A short 3 mile run down the canal in almost zero visibility got us,after a few wrong turns into the local marina. It was with much relief when we handed over the lines to the dockmaster and shut down the engine.
