Kitty, Okeechobee & Caloosahatchee ???

After a stormy night at anchor (giving us confidence in the ground tackle) in Pelican Bay - Charlotte Harbour we headed off east towards Cape Coral near Fort Myers where we took up the offer of free dockage from"looper" host Kitty. We were warmly welcomed and had dinner there with 2 other loopers and a friend. We stayed a second day and Kitty drove us to pick up some supplies (including the lauded key lime pie), some much needed plumbing parts to repair a leaky shower and we had a late brunch in town. Finally completed cleaning top decks, canvas, sorting tool drawers & a few minor repairs - now feels like the boat is comfortably ours.
Did almost a 10 hour run today to reach the entrance to cross Lake Okeechobee. One canal (ditch) stretch was  a 3 mile straight - the Caloosahatchee canal. It was a 47 mile trip slowed by 'no wake' zones and manatee habitat areas. We saw some citrus & sugar cane growing areas, did a couple more bridge lifts, a swing bridge & 2 large locks. We are docked at Moore Haven city docks for the night & shared lime key pie & cocktails with the looper couple we had met at Kitty's the previous night.
