Shiloh
We were keen to visit Shiloh National
Park to see the Civil War Battlefields. After unsuccessfully trying
to rent a car to do the self guided 10 mile drive through the park
the marina owner phoned a contact of his. Keith was a volunteer
Shiloh guide and he came & picked us up in his car for a private
tour with the bonus of him as our own personal guide who was full of
information. He is also the casting director and the re-enactment
co-ordinator for the introductory movie (as well as having a small
role along with his son) which is shown at the museum at the
beginning of the tour. It was very professionally done – the best
of any we have seen so far. The battle was at Pittsburg Landing in
April 1862. It was a bloody battle fought over 2 days between 65000
Union & 44000 Confederate troops leaving more than 23000 men
dead, wounded or missing.. The whole area has markers showing where
each army's battle lines were, where they engaged and where they
retreated to.
